There is no need to practice/prep for the audition. The kids will learn lines, dances, and songs as a group, and then be asked to say a few words, sing a couple lines, etc. individually. Behavior, listening, and effort are just as important as acting and singing skills. No matter how big or small the part your student is cast in, you should be SO PROUD of them for putting themselves out there!!! The directors will also be looking to cast up to 4 assistant directors to aid in rehearsals throughout the week and take on essential backstage responsibilities.
Although not all cast members will be needed at every rehearsal session, those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the entire week and if selected, be able to attend all rehearsals required for their role and be available for all scheduled performances. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of the audition.
All families will sign up for 1 spot to help volunteer during the week. This is an "all hands on deck" performance and more hands make for lighter work. Emails about this will go out to participating families after registration.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please note that Missoula is a big commitment and takes a lot of concentration and effort from each student in order to pull off the amazing feat of putting on a proper musical production in only one week.
Directors will communicate with adult volunteers and parents if needed about student behavior, attitude, or lack of effort. Our aim is to problem solve how best to support each student while also progressing toward our goal of performing on Saturday. It is our goal to have a positive, productive, and fun week. The Missoula directors have the final say on if a student's behavior requires that they be dismissed from the cast.
The Snow Queen
Adapted by Michael McGill
Inspired by the book by Hans Christian Andersen
Music and Lyrics by Michael McGill
Although set in a “land of colored ice,” this classic tale will warm your heart in its illustrative retelling by a group of fun-loving, imaginative hobgoblins. As they depict the journey of a young girl and her quest to find her best friend, you may just find yourself believing in malevolent mirrors, yetis, talking reindeer, and snow chickens! Blizzards can come at any moment, so strap on some snowshoes and get ready to discover what it takes to overcome chilling obstacles, keep resilience alive, and melt down the Snow Queen’s icy walls.
